MAY 2005 MEETING MINUTES

President, Bob McMillan called the meeting to order promptly at 7:00 PM. Bob asked the secretary to read the minutes from our April 2005 meeting.  The minutes were read and approved as written by the members present.

Bob then asked the treasurer to give us a report on our financial status.  B. C. advised that we have a total of 58 paid members with 7 dues waved members and other members totaling 73.  He gave his report for the month and all members present approved it.

Blackie was asked for a field committee report.  He advised the field is in good shape and plans to cut the grass this Thursday.  He said several people (you know who you are) have been leaving trash on the ground at the field.  He asked that we make sure we take our trash home with us when we leave.

Blackie also reported that the Cub day we had on April 16 was enjoyed by all.  We had about 35 pilots with about as many spectators.  His jambalaya was enjoyed by all and the ladies did their usual outstanding job with the desserts.

Mike was asked for a safety report.  Mike reminded us all that we need to watch our hands around our spinning propellers.  One slip and you will be cut and it can happen to even the most experienced pilots as well as the beginners.  BE CAREFUL.  Mike then said that the plane stand modifications are still pending since they are not owned by the club.  He felt that he needed permission from their owners before he went forward with his modifications.  He reviewed his design with everyone and it looked good to all.

OLD BUSINESS

Mike presented the wording for the Buddy Box rule we passed at a previous meeting.  His proposal reads:
Effective April 1, 2005 all training of new members and re-training of members must be made with the Buddy Box system.  Intro pilot flyers are exempt from this rule.

All members present discussed this rule at length.  A motion was made and seconded that we strike down this rule.  It was seconded and the motion was passed by a vote of all members present.

Charlie Dedon reminded everyone that he still has fuel available to anyone who needs some.

Bob reminded everyone that Red Stick is having a fun fly this Saturday, May 7 at their field.

George announced that he has several speakers lined up for after meeting presentations.  He plans to start with the June meeting.

B. C. announced that he has a new club roster available.  If you give him your email address, he will send it to you.

NEW BUSINESS

We need to plan our next Ladies night out.  Everyone was asked to think about it and bring recommendations to our next meeting so we can get one organized.  We are overdue for a Ladies night out so please, let’s pull our plans together so we can do it soon.

Mike was asked for a Big Bird update: He said that he has some door prizes but does not have a main prize yet.  Ray Shook, who has not been able to rejoin the club this year due to family issues, stood up and told us that he has the cypress swing he offered to build for us to raffle off.  He also advised that he has arranged for Coke Cola to donate the soft drinks again this year.  MANY THANKS RAY.  We will sell raffle tickets for the cypress swing at the big bird.  Everyone can buy some even if you won’t be able to attend.

Mike reviewed the duty assignments for everyone.  He also asked for as many people to show up after lunch on Friday, May 13, 2005, to help get the field ready.  Friday night we will have a meal provided for everyone.  Mike also told us he has been working on the road and cutting down as many scrub trees as he can.  He would welcome any help cutting down as many trees as possible.  Blackie reminded us not to cut down any pecan trees along the road; they belong to the Kissner’s.

Bob advised that a Samsung cellular phone was found on the road leading back to our field.  If anyone knows who lost it, Bob has it.

Vic has new club caps available if anyone wants one.

Jimmy Lyon talked about an event Blaine Austin has listed in his web site for May 28, 2005.  It is listed as an invitational only 3D event.  Blaine is a professional exhibition pilot sponsored by J R radios who is also a club member.  It was not fully understood what exactly he is planning and some discussion was had by all about it.
Blackie moved for adjournment at 8:02 PM.  Everyone agreed.
